In 1854 Thomas Butson Carne was named as a beneficiary in the will of his maternal grandfather Isaac Butson of St. Agnes.

In 1881 Thomas B. Carne, aged 37, born in St. Agnes Cornwall, unmarried, farmer of 10 acres, was with his widowed mother in Peterville, St. Agnes.

In 1891 Thomas Carne, aged 47, born in St. Agnes Cornwall, farmer, and wife Elizabeth, aged 33, born in Australia, were living in Peterville, St. Agnes. With them was Thomas' widowed mother Jane Carne.

In 1901 Thomas Butson Carne, aged 57, born in St. Agnes Cornwall, grocer & shopkeeper, and wife Elizabeth Ann, aged 43, born in Victoria Australia, were living at 42 Bridwell Road, Devonport Devon. With them were children (born in St. Agnes) daughter H. A. R. (8), to school, John (7), to school, Vera (6), to school, Frederick Henry* (3), to school.

With them were children (born in St. Agnes, single) Hetty (18), cashier for boots & shoe company, Vera (16), and Thomas Henry (14), errand boy for building contractors. Also staying was relative* Jane Carne (87) of St. Agnes, widow.
