John King
- Born: 1811, Ventonleague, Phillack, Cornwall
- Christened: 1 Dec 1811, Phillack, Cornwall 1
- Married: 8 Jul 1837, Phillack, Cornwall 2
- Died: Between 1851 and 1871
Research Notes:
Named as a beneficiary in his father's Will (written 1840), in which he is bequeathed the house in which Robert Gilbart now lives after the death of John's mother Phillis.
In 1851 John King (39) of Phillack, pattern maker, and wife Mary (40) of Gwinear were living in Ventonleague, Phillack. At home was son William (2) of St. Austell. John's daughter Elizabeth Ann was with her paternal grandmother at this time and John's brother Thomas and his family were living nextdoor.
John does not appear with his family in the 1861 Census though his wife Mary is shown as married. By 1871 she referred to herself as widowed. It is possible John went abroad and died before he could return. Other than a John King who died and was buried in St. Hilary in May 1860 aged about 50, whom the burial record refers to as having been of Higher Downs (and thus unlikely to have been this John King), he does not appear to have been buried in Cornwall. There is no entry between 1851 and 1871 in the GROE death index for a John King in Cornwall that matches his birth year.
