" BUSINESS MAN AND BOWLS SECRETARY

Death Of Mr. Thomas Crase

Mr. Thomas Crase, of Arthur street, Medindie. who died at Ru Rua Hospital on Monday, was a widely-known Adelaide business man. He was born at Kapunda 72 years ago, and was educated at the Kapunda Commercial College, and Mr. J. H. Potter's school at Aldinga. He matriculated at the Adelaide University in 1879, and then entered the employ of Messrs. Donaldson, Andrews and Sharland, warehousemen, of Bundle street. In addition to having charge of the Customs work at Port Adelaide, he had the management of several departments. He remained with the firm for 13 years, and when it changed hands became a director. He subsequently sold his interest, and opened business on his own account as an agent and city buyer for outback stations.

On the formation of the firm of Malcolm Reid & Co., he became a director of that business, a position he held tor many years. He was also a director of the Standard Salt Company, and at the time of his death was chairman of directors of the Onkaparinga Woollen Company. He was at one time a councillor for Medindie Ward in the Walkeryille District Council, a position he filled for five years. He was afterwards chairman of the council for two years.

Mr. Crase was a noted bowls enthusiast, and for 10 years was secretary of the Adelaide Club. In 1911 he was appointed secretary of the South Australian Bowline Association, a position he had held ever since. With Mr. J. C. Rundle he was joint manager of the association bowling teams mat visited the other States from time Jtotime. He relayed No. 1 for Adelaide for 27 years. During his term as secretary, the association made great strides, and the number of the clubs increased enormously." 6

Thomas married Charlotte Isobel NESBIT, daughter of Edward Planta NESBIT and Ann Vincent FARMER, on 29 Aug 1889 in Residence of E. P. NESBIT, East Adelaide, South Australia 1 2. (Charlotte Isobel NESBIT was born on 3 Feb 1861 in Angaston, S.A., Australia 7 and died about 11 Aug 1947 in Norwood District, S.A., Australia 8 9.)

   Marriage Notes:

Thomas Crase, age 26, status single, son of James Crase; and Charlotte Isabel Nesbit, age 27, status single, daughter of Edward Planta Nesbit.
