At the time of the 1871 Scotland Census John Thomson, aged 48, born in Tarbolton, silk weaver, and wife Agnes, aged 30, born in Tarbolton, were living in Lochside, Tarbolton. With them were daughter Elizabeth (5 months) of Tarbolton, and mother-in-law Elizabeth Boyle (64) of Craigie, general worker.
