At the time of the 1851 Scotland Census Ninian Thomson, aged 70, born in Tarbolton, silver weaver, and wife Elizabeth Thomson, aged 60, born in Tarbolton Ayrshire, silk weaver's wife, were living in Tarbolton Ayrshire. With them were children (both born in Tarbolton): John (28), silk weaver, and Elizabeth (18), muslin embroiderer.
At the time of the 1861 Scotland Census Ninian Thomson, aged 80, born in Tarbolton, silk weaver, and wife Elizabeth Thomson, aged 71, born in Tarbolton Ayrshire, silk winder, were living at 6 Back St., Tarbolton. Present were children Mary (40) of Tarbolton, sewed muslin worker, and John (38) of Tarbolton, silk weaver. Elizabeth's grandson Alexander Ross (age 6, born in Tarbolton) was staying.*
