From the Calendar of Fine Rolls, 18 Ric. II, m. 24, p. 134, dated 26 Nov 1394:
Order to the escheator in the county of Oxford to cause Roger Gyffard, son and heir of Thomas Gyffard, ' chivaler,' to have full seisin of all the lands which his father held of the king in chief or was seised of in demesne as of fee, saving to Sibyl late the wife of his said father her reasonable dower thereof ; as the king has taken his fealty and for 1 mark paid in the hanaper has respited his homage until Michaelmas next.
Order in like terms to John Reche, escheator in the county of Kent.
The like to the escheator in the county of Buckingham.

KENT. Inquisition. Leysdown on Sea 2 Nov
He held a marsh called ‘Giffardismerssh’ in Leysdown on Sea in his demesne as of fee of the king in chief of the castle of Dover by paying a sum, amount unknown, for the ward of the castle, annual value 6s.8d.
He died on 14 April. Thomas his son and heir is aged 1 year and more.

BUCKINGHAM. Inquisition. Buckingham 25 Aug
He held 1 messuage and 1 carucate in Water Stratford in his demesne as of fee of John Gyffard, service unknown, annual value 13s. 4d.; and jointly with Isabel his wife, who survives him, the manor of Twyford of the earl of Ormond, service unknown, by the grant of William Kynge and William Stretle, chaplains, annual value 20 marks.

NORTHAMPTON. Inquisition. Northampton 28 Sept
He held the manor of Hellidon in his demesne in fee tail by the grant of John de Seyton, knight, and William Batesford, clerk, to himself, Elizabeth then his wife, and the heirs of their bodies, by an indenture shown to the jurors. They had a daughter Katherine who is still alive.* Elizabeth is dead. It is held of the king in chief by knight service, annual value £10.
Date of death as above. Katherine is aged 10 years and more.
* Katherine was the daughter of Roger’s third marriage to Isabel Stretele/Stretle/Stretley.

He held 1 cottage and 20 a. in Cogges in his demesne as of fee of the king in chief as a hundredth part of a knight’s fee, annual value 3s. 4d. Jointly with Isabel his wife he held the manors of Begbroke and Newington with the manors of Twyford in Buckinghamshire and Hellidon in Northamptonshire, by the grant of William Stretle and William Kyng, chaplains, to them and the heirs of their bodies, and failing such heirs to his right heirs, by their charter dated at Twyford on 11 Dec. 1403. Begbroke is held of Roger Cheyne, service unknown, annual value 100s., and Newington of John Chittewode, knight, service unknown, annual value also 100s.
