The primary source which confirms her parentage and marriage has not been identified. A manuscript history of the Lacy family names “Matildam de Clare sororem thesaurarii Eborum ecclesie” as wife of Roger, son of John Constable of Chester, adding that she was buried “in choro monachorum de Stanlaw” with her husband. 1

Matilda married Roger FitzJohn DE LACY, Constable of Chester, son of John FitzRichard DE LACY, Constable of Chester, and Alice FITZ ROGER. (Roger FitzJohn DE LACY died in 1211.)
