Son William Joseph Young was born out of wedlock in 1877, the reputed father Almond Thomas, gardener. Called William Thomas in the 1881 Census.

In 1881 Almond Thomas, aged 19, born in Penryn Cornwall, gardener, and wife Elizabeth Thomas, aged 21, born in Penryn, were living at 38 Helstone Rd., St. Gluvias. Present were son William (4) of Penryn, scholar, and lodger Jane Young (57) of Penryn, single, fruiterer.

In 1891 Almond Thomas, aged 29, born in Penryn, garden labourer, and wife Elizabeth Thomas, aged 30, born in Penryn, were living at 37 Helston Rd., St. Gluvias. Present were children (all scholars, born in Penryn): Lottie (10), Catherine (7), John (6), Nora (4).

In 1901 Almond Thomas, aged 39, boron in Penryn, gardener (non-domestic), and wife Elizabth Thomas, aged 40, born in Penryn, were living in Helston Rd., Penryn. With them were children (born in Penryn): Lottie (19), Kate (18), general domestic servant, John (17), blacksmith, Arthur (10), Harold (8), Stanley (6), Elizabeth (4), Samuel (1).

In 1911 Allen Thomas, aged 49, born in Penryn, gardener, and wife of 30 years Elizabeth Thomas, aged 51, born in Penryn, were living in Helston Rd., Penryn. Present were children (born in Penryn): Harald Thomas (18), baker, Stanley Thomas (16), grocer's assistant, Lizzie (13), scholar, Thomas (10), Lottie Spurrier (29), widow, grandson Percy Spurrier (2) of Devonport.

In 1921 Allen Thomas, aged 58 years 6 months, born in Penryn, private gardener, and wife Elizabeth Jane Thomas, aged 60 years, were living in West Street, Penryn. With them were children (born in Penryn) Lottie Spurrier (39), widow, maternity nurse, Harold Thomas (27y 3m), motor engineer, Stanley Thomas (25y 3m), widower, baker, Elizabeth Thomas (22y 6m), home duties, and nephew* Percy Thomas Spurrier (13) of Keyham Devonport, father dead.
