CAME TO NURSE RELATIVES

After an illness of only a few days the death occurred at the Railway Hotel yesterday morning of Mrs. Alice Coxon, of Scone, at the age of 41 years.

The deceased lady, who was a sister of Mrs. Crimmins, wife of the licensee of the Railway Hotel, came to Glen Innes recently to assist in nursing members of the Crimmins family who were ill. However, she herself contracted illness, and her death occurred very suddenly. The remains of the deceased were conveyed to Scone last night by train, where the interment will be made. Messrs. R. T. Lightfoot and Co. had charge of the funeral arrangements at this end.

MRS. ALICE COXON.

The death, under extremely sad circumstances, at Glen lnnes, on Wednesday, of Mrs. Coxon, widow of the late Mr. Francis A. Coxon, came as a great shock to the many Scone district friends of the deceased lady. Mrs. Coxon, who had resided at 'Cliffdale, ' Wingen, for the past three years, had cemented many friendships during her comparatively short residence in the district, and by those more closely acquainted with her, was held in the highest estimation, being endowed with a bright and beautiful disposition. She had been on a short visit to a sister (Mrs. Crimmons), whose household was stricken down with the prevailing influenza epidemic, and in assisting in nursing the patients, was herself taken ill, and within five days was no more. The late Mrs. Coxon 's husband pre-deceased her by a number of years, and prior to coming to the Hunter, lived at 'Nottingham Downs' (Q.), in which property the family are still interested. The late Mr. Frank Coxon, her father-in-law, who died at Long- reach quite recently, was one of the pioneers of Southern Queensland. The deceased lady was a daughter of Mr. S. Steed, of Rockhampton, and a brother of Mr. W. Steed, who for the past 18 months has also already resided at 'Cliffdale. ' Master Frank Coxon, a student at Broughton College, is an only surviying son and child. The remains were brought to Scone and were laid to rest yesterday morning in St. Luke's Church of England Cemetery in the presence of a number of sympathising friends, the chief mourners being Master Frank Coxon (son) and Mr. W. Steed (brother). The Rev. Canon Cadell, assisted by Rev. B. C. Wilson (Aberdeen, and formerly Headmaster of Broughton College, Newcastle), took the service at the Church and at the graveside. A number of beautiful wreaths were borne on the casket, being forwarded by the following:— Frank (son), All at Spring Vale, Bob (brother), Connie and Jim, Mrs. J. Crimmins, Mrs. Mot- ley, Uncle Tom and family, M. Atherton, Mr. and Mrs. Burrows, Rev. B. C. and Mrs. Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. A. Logue, Norma, Eunice, Jim and Frank, Mr. and Mrs. Ken. Hall, All at Cress- field, Mr. and Mrs. Eric Keene, Stan. G. Keene and Co.
