In 1909 Catherine Annie Motley, dressmaker, was living in Dee street, and her husband Thomas Motley, miner, was at Dee track, Mount Morgan, QLD.

In 1912 Catherine Annie Motley, dressmaker, and husband Thomas Motley senr., miner, were in East street Extended, Mundingburra, QLD. With them was another Thomas Motley, miner, probably Catherine's brother.

FALSE PRETENCES. SOLICITOR'S CLERK CONVICTED.

The trial was concluded of Arthur Charles Abigail, 48, solicitor's clerk, who was charged with having obtained £50 from Kathleen Dorothy Rattray, at Sydney, on June 5, by falsely pretending that he was in a posi- tion to buy certain records pertaining to one Catherine Motley, the mother of Miss Rattray, and that if the records were not purchased Catherine Motley would be brought back from Adelaide under police escort.
Mr. Dovey and. Mr. E. H. Cohen (instructed by Mr. N. L. R. Griffin) appeared for the accused, who was convicted, and sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment with hard labour. His Honor said that if restitution of £50 were made within bix months he would support a petition for his release.
