In 1851 John Howell, aged 41, born in St. Andrews Glamorgan, farmer of 18 acres, and wife Mary, aged 40, born in Wenvoe Glamorgan, were living in Westrop St. Andrews. With them were children (born in St. Andrews) Mary (13), John (11), William (8), Ann (2) and Jane (5).

In 1861 John Howells, aged 52, born in St. Andrews Glamorgan, farmer of 25 acres, and wife Mary, aged 56, born in Wenvoe Glamorgan, were living in Gilbert St. Andrews. With them were children (born in St. Andrews) John (21), Jane (19), Ann (14) and Richard (12).
