These are to certify, that John Prior, son of George Prior and Mary Prior his wife, who was daughter of John Hulbert, was born in Prescot Street in the parish of Saint Mary White Chappel in the county of Middlesex this thirteenth day of September in the year 1775, at whose birth were present Wm Complin, E Complin (birth record).

In 1814 John was a beneficiary of his father's Will, from whom he received his mansion house and lands at Halse in Somersetshire, along with £1,500 stock of the Bank of England, as well as £10,000 in 3 percent reduced or 3 percent consols.
In 1827 John Prior was the sole executor of the Will of his late brother William Prior of Sydenham.
At the time of the 1851 England Census John Prior, aged 75, born in London Middlesex, unmarried, landed proprietor and fundholder, was living in Herne Hill, Lambeth Surrey.
