At the time of the 1871 England Census Mary A Dench, age 42, born in Hastings Sussex, and husband Edward Dench, aged 55, born in St. Pancras Midx, retired home builder, were living at 19 York Place, Brighton Sussex. Present were son Harry (1) of Brighton, and Edward's children Ann Dench (30) of Brighton, Lambert Dench (18) of Chelsea Midx, and Charlotte Dench (15).

In Mar 1877 Mary Ann Benedicta Dench of 19 York-place Brighton, widow, was a residuary legatee for life of her husband's Will and granted Administration of his personal effects.
