In Jun 1824 John Laver and his wife Sophia Laver were present at the marriage of Sophia's sister Mary Ann Lock to Robert Thomas Noakes in Hastings St. Clement.

In May 1827 John Laver was named in the Will of his father-in-law James Lock of Hastings, tailor, as husband of James's daughter Sophia.

At the time of the 1841 England Census John Laver, aged about 60, lodging house keeper, and [2nd] wife Mary, aged about 45, were living in York Place, Brighthelmstone Sussex. With them was daughter Sophia (15).

In Dec 1846 John Laver was present at the marriage of his daughter Sophia Laver to John Henry Etheridge in Clapham Surrey.

At the time of the 1851 England Census John Laver, aged 71, born in London, proprietor of houses, and wife Mary, aged 61, born in Rye Sussex, were living at 6 Pelham Terrace Brighton Sussex.

At the time of the 1861 England Census John Laver, aged 81, born in London Middlesex, retired bookseller, and wife Mary, aged 71, born in Rye Sussex, no occupation, were living at 8 York Place, Brighton Sussex. At the same dress was John's daughter Sophia Etheridge (36) of Hastings, married, her children Sophia Etheridge (10) of Camden Town Middlesex, Charles B Etheridge (5) of Sydney N S Wales, and Edward J (3) of Sydney N S Wales.

The Will of John Laver late of 8 York-place Brighton in the County of Sussex, gentleman, deceased, who died 16 January 1867 at 8 York-place aforesaid, was proved 19 February at the Principal Registry by the oath of Mary Ann Benedicta Laver of 8 York-place aforesaid, spinster, the daughter, the sole executrix.
