At the time of the 1901 England Census George Avis, age 25, born in Wadhurst Sussex, domestic gardener, and wife Lillian, age 23, born in Brighton Sussex, were living at 2 Captains Green, Wadhurst. With them was son Reginald (4½ ms) of Wadhurst.
At the time of the 1911 England Census George Avis, age 35, born in Wadhurst Sussex, domestic gardener, and wife of 11 years Lillian, age 33, born in Brighton Sussex (2 children), were living in Green Man, Wadhurst Sussex. With them were children (born in Wadhurst): Reginald (10), school, Elsie (9), school.
In Jan 1922 George Thomas Avis, gardener, was granted Probate of his late father's personal effects.
In the 1939 Register George T Avis (b. 14 Mar 1876), domestic gardener, and wife Lilian G Avis (b. 7 May 1877), domestic duties, were living in Greenman Cottage, Wadhurst Sussex. At the same address were [children, both single] Reginald G Avis (b. 13 Nov 1900), domestic gardener, and Elsie L Avis (b. 23 Feb 1902), dressmaker.

Man's death accidental
A verdict of accidental death was recorded at a Tonbridge inquest on Friday, on Mr. George Thomas Avis, 85, of Ingoldsby Cottages, Wadhurst, who died in Pembury Hospital on September 25.
Mr. Avis's son, Mr. Reginald Avis said that on July 18, he was in the scullery when he heard his father shout for help. His father had fallen out of a chair and the following day was taken to Pembury Hospital with a broken leg.
On September 18 he developed lung complications.
