At the time of the 1851 England Census Walter Morris, aged 21, born in Eastbourne Sussex, unmarried, was working as a draper's shopman in High Street, Lewes St. Thomas in the Cliffe, Sussex.

In 1854 Walter was a beneficiary of his father's Will.

On 23 Jun 1860 Walter Morris and his bride-to-be Jane Shoesmith were present at the marriage of Walter's widowed sister Mercy King to Henry Dennis in Eastbourne Sussex. Walter and Jane were married there on the same day.

At the time of the 1871 England Census Walter Morris, aged 41, born in Eastbourne Sussex, draper's assistant, and wife Jane, aged 33, born in Lewes Sussex, were living in Priory Street, Southover Sussex. With them were children (born in Lewes): Thomas King (8), scholar, Walter Henry (7), scholar, Martha Jane (5), Ernest Edwin (2), and brother-in-law Henry Wm. Shoesmith (25) of Lewes, grocer.

At the time of the 1881 England Census Walter Morris, aged 51, born in Eastbourne Sussex, widower, was living at 57 Priory St., Lewes St. John Southover, Sussex. With him were sons (born in Lewes): Tom King (18), fruiterer, and Walter H (17), printer.
