At the time of the 1891 Scotland Census Jane L. Cowan, aged 24, born in Tarbolton Ayrshire, was at home with her widowed mother at 3 Hawkhill, Ayr, Ayrshire. Among those present was Jane's future husband, Henry Bell (33) of Isle of Whithorn in Wigtonshire, chemist & druggist.
At the time of the 1901 Scotland Census Jeanie Bell, aged 34 years, born in Tarbolton Ayrshire, and husband Henry Bell, aged 43, born in Whithorn in Wigtonshire, chemist & druggist, were living at 41 Prestwick Rd., Ayr, Ayrshire. With them were children (all born in Ayr): Robert A. (8), scholar, Janet C. (7), scholar, Marjorie (3), Herbert H. (1).
