Lewis Owen, of Peniarth, the possessor of the original M.S. of Lewis Dwnn['s Visitation], was the eldest son of Richard Owen of Morben, in the county of Montgomery, by Margaret, his wife, daughter and heiress of a former Lewis Owen of Peniarth, who was eldest son of Griffith, fourth son of Lewis Owen, Baron of the Exchequer of North Wales, murdered in 1555. He was born in or about the year 1625; entered at Queen's College, Oxford, in 1637; Sheriff of Merioneth in 1647; and married, in 1653, to Jane, eldest daughter of Sir Richard Lloyd of Esclusham and Dulassey, in the counties of Denbigh and Carnarvon. In 1659 he was elected Knight of the Shire for Merioneth, and died on the 22nd of January, 1691-2. 2

Died the same day as he wrote his will.
Directs his body to be buried in the parish church of Llanegryn.
Refers to a Deed of Indenture dated 29 Jul 34 Chas. II [1682] whereby his son Richard Owen is obliged to pay him £150 yearly for the term of 11 years, which amount he gives & bequeaths to Hugh Owen, Edward Owen and John Edwards (partied in the Deed) in Trust for his younger children: to be equally divided between his son Robert Owen and daughters Jane Owen and Anne Owen.
All the rest & residue of his personal estate he gives & bequeaths to the said Robert Owen, Jane Owen and Anne Owen.
