Named as a beneficiary in his father's Will (1700), called Hugh John Vaughan.

Named in the Will of Richard Johnson, rector (1717) referring to an indenture quadripartite dated 9 Jan 1697/8, of which John Vaughan of Penarthwnion was of the third part. John's father is named as of the fourth part of the Indenture.

In the name of God Amen I John Vaughan of of Penarthwnion in the County of Merioneth, Gent: being Sick in body but praised be God in perfect sense & memory doe the Ninth day of July in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred and four make this my last will & testament in manner & form following revoking & anihilateing all former wills and testaments by me made & published.

And first I recommend my Soul to God my Greatest ---?--- & Assuredly by & through the merrits & passion of my blessed redeemer & Saviour Jesus Christ trusting of forgiveness of all my Sins. And my body as it pleases God to take me out of this transitory life to be buried in a Christian manner after the discrecion of my dear wife.

And as to all my Messuages Lands tenements good Cattle Chattels & Credits and all other my personall estate I give devise & bequeath as followeth that is to say as touching all my Messuages Lands tenements & hereditaments with the appurtenances in the parish of Llangelynin in the said County of Merioneth whereof I am Seized as Mortgagee or otherwise & all & every Sum & Sums of money due or anywise oweing & payable to me my Executors Administrators or Assigns for by reason or out of the said premises and all other Messuage Lands tenements & hereditaments with the appurtenances Situate in the parish of Llanelltyd in the said County heretofore Mortgaged to me by Hugh David and David ap Hugh and all the money thereby or out of the same due to me. And all other Messuages Lands & tenements by any other person or persons whatsoever Mortgaged to me Situate & being in the said severall parishes of Llangylynin & Llanelltyd...

I give and devise unto my loving father in law John William and to my brothers Robert Vaughan & Hugh Vaughan To have & to hold to the said John William, Robert Vaughan & Hugh Vaughan & their heires in trust for the use & benefit of my three youngest children namely Wm Vaughan Ynur Vaughan & Catherine Vaughan to be equally divided between them.

Item. in pursuance to my power by & in the Articles made & executed upon my Mariage to & with my now wife to chardge all or part of the Messuage land & tenements Comprised & mencioned in the said Marriage Articles with the Sum of four hundred pounds or thereabouts I doe give & devise ----?---- Such part thereof as will or shall make all the money due or any wages payable to me by the Mortgages aforesaid or for or by reason of the Same to the clear & full Summ of Six hundred pounds unto my said three children Wm Ynur & Catherine for their better pre-------

further portions I doe further give & bequeath all the rest and residue of my personall estate to my dear wife Catherine and to my eldest Son and heir apparent Robert Vaughan whom I do hereby nominate & appoint to be Joynt Executor of this my last will and Testament.

I doe lastly and further Commit grant give & devise all my children to the tuition and guardianship of my father in law John William and my brothers Robert Vaughan and Hugh Vaughan and to the Survivor of them.

And I desire my said dear wife to aid and assist my said father in law & brothers in the education maintenance and keeping of my said children In witness whereof I have hereunto Sett my hand & Seal & published this my last Will and Testament the day & year first above written.
