At the time of the 1901 England Census Ernest Dyer, age 26, born in Eastbourne, watchmaker, was with his parents at 7 Royal Parade, Eastbourne.
At the time of the 1911 England Census Ernest Dyer, age 37, born in Eastbourne, watchmaker (dealer & repairer), and wife of 8 years Harriet Jane, age 37, born in Brighton (mother of 2 children), were living at 22 Seaside, Eastbourne. With them were children (born in Eastbourne): Ernest Frederick (7), scholar, and Hattie Enid (5). Boarding was Victor Hugo Luscher (17) of Aberdeen Scotland, apprentice watchmaker.
In the 1939 Register Ernest Dyer (b. 4 Nov 1873), watch maker, and wife Harriet Jane (b. 30 Nov 1873), unpaid domestic duties, were living at 29 Willingdon Road, Eastbourne.

DEATH OF FORMER BUSINESS MAN
The funeral service of Mr. Ernest Dyer, of 29, Willingdon-road, well-known in Eastbourne as a jeweller and watchmaker before his retirement, was conducted on Wednesday at the Pevensey-road Congregational Church by the Rev. Leslie Artingstall. Cremation followed at Brighton.
Mr. Dyer left Eastbourne on Christmas morning with his wife and daughter to spend the Yule-tide with relatives in London. He was found dead in his bed on Boxing Day morning, having died in his sleep.
Mr. Dyer, who is survived by his widow and daughter, had been a deacon of Pevensey-road Congregational Church for 23 years and a member for 45 years. In this he followed in the footsteps of his parents who were members of the same congregation.
Mr. Dyer lost his only son shortly before the outbreak of the last war. For 46 years Mr. Dyer had been a watchmaker and jeweller in Junction-road and later at Seaside. He was 74 years of age.
