At the time of the 1851 England Census John Adams, age 40, born in Alfriston, agricultural labourer, and wife Frances, age 38, born in Alfriston, were living in Alfriston Sussex. Present were children (born in Alfriston): Catherine (12), William (9), and mother-in-law Sarah Reed (67) of Sompting, widow, pauper.
