In 1851 Sarah Maton, aged 30 and husband William Maton, aged 34, painter, were living in Market Place Devizes St. John. With them were children (born in Devizes): Robert (4), Emma (2), Martha (1). The same Census shows Sarah Maton, aged 31, painter's wife, and her daughter Martha Maton (1) of Devizes, visiting [Sarah's brother] Robert Mundee, farmer, in Harriscroft, Wootton Bassett.

In 1871 Sarah Maton, aged 52, born in Chapelwick and husband William H Maton, aged 58, born in Portsmouth Hants, journeyman painter, were living in Knight's Court St. John Wilts. With them was daughter Martha A (21) of Devizes.

In 1881 Sarah Maton, aged 62, born in Devizes [sic] and husband William H Maton, aged 66, born in Portsmouth Hants, house painter, were living at 3 Knight's Court Devizes St. John.
