Abstract of the Will of Nicholas Hicks of the Parish of Paul in the County of Cornwall, Yeoman, written 15 Jul 1628, proved 22 Jun 1632. 2

Gives 5 shillings for tithes forgotten.

Gives 30 shillings to the poor of the parish of St. Ives.

Gives 20 shillings to the poor of the parish of Paul.

Gives 20 shillings to the stock and store of each parish.

Gives £6 to his cousin Henry Hicks, being the amount Henry owes.

Gives £40 to his cousin George Hicks, being the amount George owes.

Gives £7 to his cousin Richard Hicks, being part of the amount Richard owes.

Gives £10 to the son of his deceased cousin John Hicks late of Plymouth.

Gives 40 shillings to his godson Nicholas Hicks the son of his brother Joell Hicks.

Gives 20 shillings each to his cousins John Hicks and Richard Hicks, brothers.

Gives 30 shillings to the daughter of his cousin Joan Hicks.

Gives 20 shillings to his cousin Mary Hicks.

Gives 20 shillings to his cousin Bersabe Anne.

Gives 20 shillings each to his three sisters-in-law Anne, Chestian and Lucie.

Gives 30 shillings to Mr. Thomas Trewren, being part of the debt he owes. Also gives 30 shillings to Thomas's brother, Wm. Trewren.

Forgives the debt of Mrs. Margaret Trewren, widow.

Gives to his son William Hicks and his heirs his lands, tenements and hereditaments in the parish of St. Just in Penwith, as well as his lands, tenements and hereditaments called Trevithall in the parish of Paul, both of which were expressed in a conveyance made from his cousin Richard Letheby to his cousin Richard Keigwin.

All the rest of his goods and chattels he gives to his wife and children, appointing his wife Phillip sole executrix of his last will and testament.

Nominates his brothers-in-law Walter Burlace, John Burlace, and his cousin Henry Hicks, overseers of his will, giving them 10 shillings each for their efforts.

Witnesses: William Borlace, Walter Burlace, Wellmott Burlace, John Burlace

  Marriage Information:

Nicholas married Philippa Borlase, daughter of Walter Borlase of Trannack and Mary Lanyon, about 1619. (Philippa Borlase was born about 1596 in Trannack, Sithney, Cornwall and was buried on 3 Mar 1674/5 in Paul, Cornwall.)
