George son of Ann Dann of Mayfield (baptismal record). George and his siblings born before the marriage of their parents bore the family name of AVIS.

At the time of the 1881 England Census George Avis, age 15, born in Mayfield Sussex, was working as a house lad at 47 Sea Side, Eastbourne Sussex.

At the time of the 1891 England Census George Avis, age 25, born in St. Pancras London [sic], general laborer, and wife Louisa, age 22, born in St. Pancras, were living at 2 Chapel Mews, St. Pancras. Present were children (born in St. Pancras): William (3) and Annie (7 mo).

At the time of the 1901 England Census George Avis, age 36, born in Sussex, stone mason, and wife Louisa, age 32, born in Pancras London, were living at 17 Sidney St., St. Pancras London. With them were children (born in Pancras): William (12), Annie (10), George (8), Elizabeth (6), Henry (4), and Louisa (1).

At the time of the 1911 England Census George Avis, age 45, born in Mayfield Sussex, stone mason, and wife of 25 years Louisa, age 42, born in St. Pancras London (mother of 10 children), were living at 49 Clarendon St., St. Pancras. With them were children (born in St. Pancras, single): William (22), shop assistant, Annie (20), fancy leather worker, George (18), fancy leather worker, Lizzie (16), shirt assistant, Harry (13), Louisa (11), James (9), Florence (6), Rose (4), and Frederick (2).

In the 1939 Register George Avis (b. 19 Apr 1865), retired stone mason, and wife Louisa J Avis (b. 17 Nov 1867*), unpaid domestic duties, were living at 78, Upper Holloway, Islington, St Pancras, London. At the same address was [daughter] Elizabeth E Avis (b. 6 Feb 1895), paring machinist.
