At the time of the 1881 England Census John Carey, age 20, born in Birmingham Warwick, stoker 2nd class, was aboard the Royal Navy vessel Dido.

At the time of the 1891 England Census John Carey, age 30, born in Birmingham Warwick, ship's fireman, and wife Sarah, age 21, born in Birmingham Warwick, pearl button finisher, were with John's sister Ellen Newey and her family in Birmingham All Saints, Warwickshire.

In Aug 1894 John Carey was present at the marriage of his sister Elizabeth Carey to John Kench in Hockley, Birmingham.

Unable to locate John and his family in the 1901 or 1911 England Censuses.
