At the time of the 1881 England Census Lily Spicer, age 7, born in Marden Kent,, scholar, was with her uncle Thomas Britcher, farmer, in Burns Hill, Marden Kent.

At the time of the 1911 England Census Lily Gains, age 37, born in Marden Kent (mother of 1 child), and husband of 15 years Joseph Gains, age 37, born in Folkestone Kent, goods foreman (S. E. & C. Railway), were living at 27 Grove Road, Folkestone. With them was daughter Florence Lily (14) of Folkestone.

In the 1939 Register Lily Gains (b. 25 May 1873), unpaid domestic duties, and husband Joseph Gains (b. 22 May 1873), dock foreman (retired), were living at 14 Cromwell Road, Ware, Hertfordshire.
