DEATH OF MR. FRANK BRITCHER
CORONATION MAYOR ELECT OF HYTHE
A member of a well-known Tonbridge family who had attained great distinction in south-east Kent, was last week removed by death on the eve of his election as Coronation Mayor of Hythe. He was Mr. Frank Britcher, fourth son of the late Mr. George Britcher, of Oak Lodge, Tonbridge, and brother of Miss Britcher and Mrs. Percival, of Priory Bank, Pembury Road, and he died on Friday.
He was born in Tonbridge fifty-six years ago and lived in the town until the Great War, when he went out to India. He was at Judd School. Since 1920 he had lived at Hythe and had taken a prominent part in the town's affairs. The summit of his civic career was reached a few days before his death, which occurred suddenly, when he was chosen as Mayor-elect of Hythe.
The funeral was at Hythe Parish Church on Tuesday, when the vicar of Hythe conducted the burial service.
Mr. Britcher was prominently associated with the Hythe branch of the British Legion, and he was given an official Legion funeral.
The Mayor of Hythe and members of the Town Council, together with the officials, attended, and several prominent Freemasons were present.
Mr. Britcher was a Past Master of the Medway Lodge, No. 1678, Tonbridge, in which he held the office of charity representative, and the lodge was represented at the funeral by Mr. James Henry Burt, P.P.D.G.D.C., and Mr. David Vinell, P.M. Also present from Tonbridge was Mr. James Pugh Price, P.M. of the Lodge of the Men of Kent and Kentish Men, No. 4273....
