At the time of the 1851 England Census William Callway, aged 40, born in Newington Kent, carpenter employing 1 man and [an] apprentice, and wife Mary, aged 43, born in Hartlip Kent, were living in Detling Kent. With them were children William (17) of Newington, carpenter, James (15) of Newington, apprentice, and born in Detling: Emma (9), scholar, Frederick (7), scholar, George (5), Albert (3), and visitor Kate Callaway (27) of Newington, unmarried, dressmaker.
At the time of the 1861 England Census William Callway, aged 51, born in Newington Kent, carpenter & joiner, and wife Mary, aged 50, born in Newington, were living at 111 High Street, Minster in Sheppey Kent. With them were children James (24) of Newington, and born in Detling Kent: Richard (22), Emma (20), George (15), and Albert (12).
At the time of the 1871 England Census William Callway, aged 59, born in Newington Kent, carpenter, and wife Mary, aged 58, born in Newington, were living at 3 Park Road, Sittingbourne Kent. With them were Emma (28) and Albert (23), carpenter, both born in Detling.

* Primary sources all show that William Callaway died aged 78 years, undoubtedly all from one informant. However, his age is overstated by 10 years, and the censuses leading up to and including that of 1871 confirm this.
