At the time of the 1871 Wales Census Richard Hughes, aged 44, born in Llandelofawr Carmarthen, widower, chemist & druggist, was living in Gateway Buildings, Aberystwyth, Cardigan. With him was daughter Ada Page (6) of Aberystwyth.

At the time of the 1881 Wales Census Richard Hughes, aged 54, born in Llandelofawr Carmarthen, widower, chemist & druggist, was living at 1 Market St., Aberystwyth, Cardigan. With him was daughter Ada Page (16) of Aberystwyth, scholar.

At the time of the 1891 Wales Census Richard Hughes, aged 64, born in Llandilo Carmarthen, widower, chemist & druggist, was living at 1 Market St., Aberystwyth, Cardigan.

OBITUARY.—The funeral of Mr Richard Hughes who formerly carried on the business of chemist in Great Darkgate street, took place on Tuesday afternoon of last week. The deceased gentleman, who was seventy-four years of age, had latterly resided with his married daughter, Mrs Steeley, at Laugharne, where he breathed his last the previous Saturday. The body was brought to Aberystwyth by the afternoon train and the interment took place at the cemetery in the family vault. The Venerable Archdeacon of Cardigan officiated. Among the chief mourners were Captain Steeley, son-in-law, and Mr Roderick Williams, of New street.
