At the time of the 1841 England Census William Akhurst, aged about 30, farmer, and wife Elizabeth, aged about 25, were living in Dun Street, Boxley Kent. With them were children Caroline (5), Maria (3), Jane (2), and James (1).

At the time of the 1851 England Census William Akhurst, age 44, born in Bredgar Kent, farmer with a brother*, and wife Elizabeth, age 38, born in Breadhurst Kent, were living in Dunn Street, Boxley Kent. With them were children (born in Boxley): Maria (15), Jane (13), scholar, William (7), scholar, Mary (6), scholar, and Charles (4), scholar, and wife's mother Lucy Kitchingham (72) of Stockbury Kent, widow, visitor.

* This was brother George.

Administration (with the Will) of the effects of William Akhurst formerly of Dunn-street Boxley but late of Bredhurst near Chatham both in the County of Kent, who died 23 August 1870 at Bredhurst, was granted 1 June 1874 at the Principal Registry to Mary Elizabeth Akhurst of Boxley, widow, the relict, the residuary legatee. 3
