In 1741 John Gower was co-executor and one of the residuary legatees of his father's will, who also bequeathed him his dwelling house in Lindfield, along with its stable, outhouses, buildings, gardens, orchard and associated premises.
In 1743 John Gower was a witness to the Will of Robert Rothwell of Lindfield, cordwainer.

Gives and bequeaths to his wife Martha his house where he now lives, along with its dying house, stable and orchard, along with the dwelling house, shop and orchard late Maskles and now occupied by Thomas Vinal. Also gives to Martha all his household goods, dying utensils, stock in trade, livestock, read monies, and all his goods and chattels whatsoever for the term of her natural life.
After the death of his wife Martha he gives and bequeaths to his son John Gower his house where he now lives, with its stable, dying house and orchard, along with the remainder of his household goods, stock in trade, dying utensils, ready monies, and all his goods and chattels, with the exception of £20.
Gives to his sons Jeremiah Gower and Thomas Gower his dwelling house, shop and orchard, currently occupied by Thomas Vinal.
After the death of his wife he gives and bequeaths £20 to his daughter Martha Gower, along with the bed with green hangings in the chamber commonly called the brewhouse chamber.
Appoints his wife Martha sole executor of his last will and testament.
