At the time of the 1841 England Census John Akehurst, age about 25, ag. lab., and wife Francis, age about 20, were living in Broke, Halstead, Kent. With them were son John (10 months), and Mary Kemp (10).

At the time of the 1861 England Census John Akers, age 48, born in Heathfield Sussex, farmer's wagoner, and wife Mary*, age 42, born in Burwash Sussex, were living in Vauxhall Lane, Heneton? Farm, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. With them were John's children: James (15) of Heathfield Sussex, wagoner's mate, William (5) of Wadhurst, scholar, and visitor Mary Kemp (20) of Wadhurst, unmarried, servant.

* This is an error on the part of the Census taker; John's wife, Frances, died shortly before the 1871 Census and was buried in Seal Kent. Mary Kemp visiting above would have been a relative of Frances.

At the time of the 1871 England Census John Akehurst, age 57, born in Heathfield Sussex, widower, ag. lab., was living in Little Underriver, Seal, Kent.

At the time of the 1881 England Census John Akehurst, age 67, born in Heathfield Sussex, widower, agricultural labourer, was a patient at the Cottage Hospital in Sevenoaks Kent.
