At the time of the 1901 England Census Mary Murphy, age 37, born in Alfriston Sussex, and husband John Murphy, age 51, born in Dublin Ireland, storehouseman, were living at 87 Jessie Rd., Portsmouth Hampshire. Present were children Edwin (14) of Aldershot, John (13) of Aldershot, James (11) of Portsmouth, and George (8) of Portsmouth.
At the time of the 1911 England Census Mary Murphy, age 48, born in Alfriston Sussex (mother of 4 children), and husband of 25 years John Murphy, age 61, born in Dublin, army pensioner, paralysed, were living at 56 Jessie Road Portsmouth Hampshire. With them were sons Edwin (24) of Aldershot, counter asst. clothing trade, James (21) of Portsmouth, counter asst. clothing trade, and George (18) of Portsmouth, clerk [in] Railway Company.
In Jul 1912 Mary Martin Murphy, widow, was granted Probate of the personal effects of her late husband John Murphy, pensioned colour sergeant.
