In Dec 1899 William Gresham Huggett was present at the marriage of his brother Alfred Edward Huggett to Georgina Florence Hunnisett in Lewes Sussex.

At the time of the 1901 England Census William Huggett, age 20, born in Lewes Sussex, bread baker, was with his parents at 3 Pleasant Place, St. John, Lewes.

At the time of the 1911 England Census William Huggett, age 30, born in Lewes Sussex, baker, and wife of 5 years Clara, age 30, born in Brighton Sussex, were living at 6 New Street, Lewes Sussex. With them was son William (4) of Lewes.

In Jun 1921 William Gresham Huggett, journeyman baker, was granted Probate of the personal effects of his late brother Jonathan Huggett of Lewes.

In the 1939 Register William G Huggett (b. 22 Feb 1881*), insurance agent, and [2nd] wife Annie C Huggett (b. 23 Jun 1887), house duties, were living at 2 Keere Street, Lewes Sussex.

HUGGETT.—On July 6th, 1949, William Gresham Huggett, "Hilltop," Keere-street, Lewes, passed peacefully away, aged 69.

MR. W. G. HUGGETT

The coffin was draped with a Union Jack at the funeral of Mr. William Gresham Huggett, of 2, Keere-street, Lewes, on Monday. Lewes branch of the British Legion, of which he was a member, were represented, and the standard was carried by Mr. H. C. Wheeler.

Mr. Huggett, who was aged 69, was born in Lewes and lived in the town all his life. Since he was a boy he had belonged to the Borough Bonfire Society, and had held several offices in the society, including those of hon. secretary and hon. treasurer. At one time he helped to make the society's tableau.

He had been a member of Lewes Town Band, and was their auditor for 20 years up to the time of his death. He also belonged to the Lewes Allotment Association, and was, until recently, a member of the Town Council's Allotment Committee.

During the first world war he served in the Royal Engineers, and in the 1939-45 war he was a full-time air raid warden.

For some years he was employed by Messrs. Stevenson, Ltd., as a journeyman baker. Two years ago he retired after 20 years' service as a local agent for the Liverpool Victoria Insurance Co. He leaves a widow and one son.

A service was held at Westgate Unitarian Church on Monday, followed by interment in Lewes Cemetery. The Rev. W. H. Stephenson officiated.

Among those present were Mrs. Huggett (widow), Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Huggett (son and daughter-in-law), Mr. C. Colwell and Mr. W. Funnell (brothers-in-law), Mrs. Grant and Mrs. Bryan (nieces), Mr. S. Colwell (nephew), Mrs. C. Griffiths (cousin), Mrs. F. Funnell (Ripe), Mrs. Beckingham (Ripe), Mrs. Beckingham (Lewes), Mrs. Lester, Miss Lester, Mr. and Mrs. Wickerson, Mr. H. J. Hall, Mr. J. D. Mayhew, Mr. Christian (manager of the Lewes branch of the Liverpool Victoria Insurance Co.), Mr. H. Pinyoun and Mr. Holder.

The many organisations with which Mr. Huggett had been connected were represented.
