At the time of the 1861 England Census Abigail Stevenson, age 38, born in Alciston, and husband George Stevenson, age 40, born in Fletching, master blacksmith, were living in Back Lane, Mayfield Sussex. With them were children Clara (10) of West Firle, scholar, and born in Mayfield: Emily (6), scholar, John William (4), scholar, Abigail (3 mo).
