In 1881 Gilbert Thomas, aged 29, born in Camborne Cornwall, tin miner, and wife Ellen, aged 21, born in Camborne, were living at Sparnon Gate, Redruth. With them was daughter Ellen Jane (2w) of Treleigh.
In 1891, Gilbert was abroad. Wife Ellen (30) of Illogan, was living in Brea, Camborne. With her were children: Ellen J. (10), scholar, and Gilbert (8), scholar, both of Redruth, and James H. (6), scholar, William V. (4) and Arthur (2), all born in Camborne.
