In 1810 Stephen James Johns was named as a beneficiary in the will of his brother Richard Johns of Trewince, Esq.
In 1841 Stephen Johns, aged about 75, born in the county, solicitor, and wife Betty Johns, aged about 70, born in the county, were in High Street, Penryn, Cornwall.

Abstract of the Will of Stephen James Johns of the Parish of Penryn and County of Cornwall, Gentleman, written 19 May 1837, proved 30 Apr 1849. 5
Confirms the marriage settlement with his wife Betty Johns and gives her all his household furniture, table linen, china, glass, plate, an earthernware cellar of wine and spirits, books &c. for her sole use and benefit.
Gives to his son Edward Johns all his law books and the contents of his office.
Gives £50 to his daughter Mary Ann Williams.
Gives £25 each to his grandchildren Emma Catherine Williams, Richard Stephen Johns Williams, and Edward Withers Williams.
Gives to his son Edward Johns his freehold messuages and hereditaments at the bottom of Green Lane with the field or meadow adjoining, called the Part Meadow, in the borough of Penryn, a freehold meadow near the church of St. Gluvias (Edward to pay £150 to his sister Mary Ann Williams).
Gives his leasehold farm & estate called Penpol in the parish of Kea, and his farm & estate called Lower Treliever? in the parish of Mabe, to Edward Coode of the parish St. Austell, gent., on trust, for the use of his said daughter Mary Ann Williams.
Appoints his son Edward Johns sole executor of his last will and testament.
