In 1851 James Vivian, aged 42, born in Camborne Cornwall, copper miner (printer), and wife Jane Vivian, aged 44, born in Redruth Cornwall, were living in Doppa Terrace, Fore Street, Redruth. With them were children (born in Redruth) James (19), blacksmith, William (17), engine worker, John (15), blacksmith, Richard (13), mine labourer, and Philip (7), scholar.
At the time of the 1861 UK Census James's wife, Jane Vivian, was with her son Richard and his family, it being stated that her husband was mining in America. James does not appear in the 1871 UK Census either. It is possible this is the same James Vivian who appears in the 1870 U.S. Federal Census for Oakland township, Chatham, North Carolina, aged 61, born in England, employed as a mining hand.
In 1881 James Vivian, aged 72, born in Camborne, retired printer (compositor), and [2nd] wife Sarah Vivian, aged 72, born in Phillack Cornwall, were living at 22 Ventouraze, Illogan, Cornwall.
