DEATH OF MR. JOHN VIVIAN OF HAYLE.
The news of the death of Mr. John Vivian, of Meadowside, Hayle, which occurred on Sunday evening, will be received with widespread regret. Mr. Vivian had reached the patriarchal age of 86, but his health had not been good for a considerable time, following a motor accident.
Mr. Vivian was a director of Harvey and Co., and was for many years the secretary of the firm. He married Miss Harvey, who predeceased him by some three years. Three daughters survive him.
He was a prominent figure in the life of Hayle, and his death is a distinct loss to the district.
The funeral takes place on Thursday afternoon at St. Erth.
Mr. John Vivian, of Meadowside, Hayle, a member of the firm of Harvey and Co., Limited, was for many years one of the mainsprings of the firm, and outlived by many years his colleagues Mr. N. J. West and Mr. Harry Harvey, but is survived by Mr. Frank Harvey, J.P., Mr. Francis H. Harvey and other members of the firm. Mr. Vivian was one of the most urbane and kindly men, and keenly interested in national and local affairs ; but of late years had lived tranquilly among his flowers, fruit and books in Meadowside. A few years ago, during a trip to the Lizard he was in a motor car collision near Helston, and was flung out of his motor car and over a hedge ; but to the gratification of his friends was soon able to drive out again and seemed little the worse for the accident. He had attained a patriarchal age, and could if he had chosen, have figured as prominently in County Council, political and other circles as his namesake, the late Mr. John Vivian, of Carbis Bay and Camborne ; but he elected to confine his labours to the inner circle of which the extensive Hayle business was the centre. He won and deserved the esteem and regard of his associates and neighbours, and by his death Cornwall loses one of its worthiest citizens.
