Joseph was not with his family in England at the time of the 1911 UK Census. Wife Lucy, aged 33, born in Redruth Cornwall, married for 9 years, mother of two children, was at 6 Burleigh Park Rd., Peverell, Plymouth, Devon. With her were children Phyllis (4) of Huelwa Spain and Howard (2) of Redruth.
In the 1939 Register Joseph C Vivian (b. 24 Feb 1878), mining engineer, and wife Lucy M Vivian (b. 8 May 1877), unpaid domestic duties, were living at Mount Prospect, Redruth, Cornwall.
