FUNERAL OF MR. R. HOSKING, OF BROOK COTTAGE, MADRON.
The funeral of Mr. R. Hosking, for quite 30 years clerk to the late Mr. W. Trythall, solicitor, and clerk and cashier to Messrs. Trythall and Bodilly, and also for some time auditor to the Penzance Gas-company, took place on Saturday afternoon.
The mournful cortège left Brook cottage, where deceased had been residing with, and tenderly nursed by, his sisters for some months past, at three o'clock, and slowly proceeded to St. Mary's ancient burial-ground, Penzance, where deceased was to be laid in the family vault by the side of mother and maternal ancestors.
The chief mourners were Miss Hosking and Miss A. Hosking (sisters) Mr. Frank Bellringer (cousin) Mr. F. Harvey, Penzance (cousin) Mr. F. J. Cornish (uncle) Miss Bellringer (cousin) and domestics (Miss Uren and Mrs. Matthews). Among the large number of friends who congregated at the graveside were Major Ross, J.P., Dr. J. A. Fox (medical adviser), Messrs. G. L. Bodilly, C. Branwell, T. Branwell, E. C. Scobey, T. Hawes (Penzance Gas Co.), Henry White (Roscadghill), R. Bray, J. R. Pengelly, G. G. Reed (Heamoor) and J. L. Heehs; Miss Charlotte Branwell, Mrs. Peach, and Mr. Peach jun., and Miss Peach (Heamoor). Beautiful wreaths were sent from "Sisters Missie and Annie" ; R. B. M. Davy, Rose-cottage ; "Until the day break and the shadows fall away" ; Mrs. Beaumont and Miss Day ; and Charlotte and Mary Harvey.
Rev. De La Romustein, curate of Madron, officiated. The dual coffin consisted of a pine shell with an unpolished oak covering, mounted with heavy brass furniture, the breastplate bearing the inscription "RICHARD HOSKING. Died 16th September, 1896, aged 51 years."....
