In 1891 James Harris, aged 61, born in Philack Cornwall, master mariner seas, widower, was living in Hostle Park, Carna Villa, Ilfracombe, Devon. Present were wife* [sic] Anne M. (24) of Ilfracombe, son Arthur V. (21) of Ilfracombe, jeweller's assistant - gold, one servant and one visitor.

In 1901 James Harris, aged 71, born in Philack, master mariner, and (2nd) wife Prudence (55) of Fremington Devon, were living in Hostle Park, Ilfracombe. Present was daughter Annie M. (34) of Ilfracombe.
In 1911 James Harris, aged 81, born in Copperhouse Cornwall, retired master mariner, and wife 17 years Prudence Harris, aged 65, born in Fremington Devonshire (no children) were living at Cama Villa, 5 Hostle Park, Ilfracombe. With them were children (born in Ilfracombe) Annie Mattie (44), single, and Walter James (43), married, ironmonger's shop assistant.
In 1921 James Harris, aged 91 years 9 months, born in Copper House, retired master mariner, and wife Prudence Harris, aged 75 years 4 months, born in Fremington, home duties, were living at 5 Hostel Park, Ilfracombe. With them were children (born in Ilfracombe) Anney Mattie Harris (54y 10m), single, home duties, Arther Vivian Harris (51y 5m), married, jeweller's manager, and three visitors.
