Research Notes:
In 1841 Joseph Harris, aged about 40, not born in the county, mariner, and wife Sarah Harris, aged about 30, born in the county, were living in New Buildings, Barnstaple, Devon. Present were Joseph's children James (12), Vivian (10), Elizabeth (2), and Thomas (5 mo).
In 1851 Joseph Harris, seaman, was not with his family. Wife Sarah Harris, aged 48, born in Ilfracombe Devon, married, was at 3 New Buildings, Barnstaple. With her were children Vivian* (19) of Phillack Cornwall, ironmonger's app[rentice], Thomas (10) of Barnstaple, scholar, William (8) of Bickington Devon, scholar, and Samuel (5) of Barnstaple.

By 1861 Sarah Harris, aged 52, born in Ilfracombe, grocer, was a widow and living in Fremington Devon. With her were daughter Elizabeth Fosse Harris (21) of Barnstaple, and son Samuel Harris (15) of Barnstaple, printer & compositor.
