Obituary

"Jane Davis Mills, second eldest daughter of John and Jane Davis, was born in Cornwall, England, and died Nov. 26th, 1917, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walter B. Brown, Brooklyn, New York, aged 78 years, after a long and painful illness. She was the widow of Daniel D. Mills and is survived by three sons and one daughter, Fred Mills of Valley Alaska, Captain William Mills of Keokuk, Ia., Raleigh D. Mills of Toledo, Ohio, and the daughter at whose home she had lived the past year, and where she passed away. Three children preceded their mother in death, a son Sanfred who died in childhood, John the eldest son died four years ago and a daughter Mrs. Susan Mills Brown who died in January, 1916. Mrs. Mills came to this country at the age of eight years with her parents, sister and brother, making the trip in a sailing vessel and was six weeks making the voyage, settling at Apple River, Ill., where she was a pioneer resident for many years. After her marriage, she went to La Crosse, Wis., and after the death of her husband she again came to make Apple River her home, and although in the later years of her life she spent much time with her children at different places, she always considered Apple River her home. Besides her children she leaves to mourn her loss one sister, Mrs. Charity Stephens, also an old pioneer resident of this place, and three nieces, Miss Ruth Stephens, Mrs. Mary J. Roper, of Warren and Mrs. Emma M. McDonald of Rock City...."
