  Research Notes:

Jane undoubtedly understated her age at the time of the 1841 and 1851 Censuses. Given her eldest son from her first marriage, Abraham, was born about 1824, Jane could not have been born any later than 1807.

In 1841 Jane Hitchens, aged about 30, born in the county, and husband Joel Hitchens, aged about 20, born in the county, miner, were living in Lanner, Gwennap, Cornwall. With them were daughter Martha (8 months) and (Jane's children) Ab. Pearce (15), miner, Isaac Pearce (13), Jacob Pearce (10), John Pearce (7) and Ester Pearce (5).

In 1851 Jane Hitchens, aged 42, born in Gwennap Cornwall, married, miner's wife, husband abroad, was living in Gwennap. With her were children (born in Gwennap) John Pearce (14), miner, and Esther Jane Pearce (12).

Jane married Abraham Pearce, son of John Pearce and Anna Carpenter, on 27 Jul 1822 in Illogan, Cornwall. (Abraham Pearce was born in 1799 in Illogan, Cornwall, christened 20 Oct 1799 in Redruth, Cornwall and was buried on 30 Jan 1839 in Illogan, Cornwall, aged 39 years.)
