Research Notes:
A Richard, son of Simon & Ann Craze was christened in Illogan in 1805. There was also a Richard, son of Richard & Elizabeth Crase, christened in Camborne in 1808. Richard's age was recorded as 35 at the time of the 1841 Census, but since the age of parents in the 1841 Census are usually rounded off, this only tells us that he was born during the 1810s. Richard gave his age as 48 in 1851 (b.c. 1803). But in 1861, he gave his age as 63 (b.c. 1798). There is no record of a Richard Craze christened in either Illogan or Camborne in the late 1790s. The onomastics (naming patterns) suggest this Richard was the second son of John rather than son of Simon. Richard's elder siblings were most likely also born in Illogan, even though all with the exception of his eldest sister Mary Ann were christened in Camborne (Mary Ann was born and christened in Illogan, although in 1851 she gave her birthplace as Camborne). John's family spent a number of years living in Condurrow (2 miles ESE of Camborne and 4 miles SSW of Illogan).
