In 1851 James Arthur (14) of Gwinear, blacksmith, was with his parents in Menner Downs, Gwinear.

In 1861 James Arthur (25) of Gwinear, copper miner, and wife Grace (26) of Breage, were living in Carnhell Green, Gwinear. Present was son William James (9 months) of Breage.

In 1871 James Arthur (36) of Gwinear, miner, and wife Grace (37) of Gwinear, were living in Menner Downs Gwinear. Present were children (born in Gwinear): William James (10), Elizabeth (8), Rosina (6), Mary (4), Ann (3), Grace (1)

In 1881 John [sic] Arthur (45) of Gwinear, copper miner, and wife Grace (45) of Gwinear, were living in Mennor Downs cottage, Gwinear. Present were children (born in Gwinear): William J. (20), farm labourer, Mary (15), scholar, Grace (11), scholar, John (9), scholar, Edith (7), scholar, Jane (1)

In 1891 James Arthur (54) of Gwinear, tin miner, and wife Grace (55) of Gwinear, were living in Menner Downs, Gwinear. Present were son John (19), tin miner, grandchildren (born in Gwinear): Janie Arthur (11), Willie Arthur (6). Daughter Mary Mitchell and her family were living nextdoor.

In 1901 James Arthur (64) of Gwinear, farmer (own account) and wife Grace (65) of Breague, were living in Bandowers, Phillack, Cornwall. Present were daughter Edith (24) of Gwinear, and grandson William J. Angove (12) of Camborne.
