Obituary

"An old resident of the Reedy Lake district, Mr Robert Hampton, passed away at his residence, "Lelant," Reginald Street, Quarry Hill, on Tuesday, at the age of 60 years. Deceased was born at Lelant, Cornwall, England. He sailed for Australia at the age of 18 years, and took up the occupation of miner in Ballarat and Bendigo, in which he was very successful. At the age of 25 years the deceased gentleman selected land at Dingee and afterwards settled at Reedy Lake near Kerang, and carried on farming on an extensive scale. About 10 years ago he left the management of the farm to his sons and retired, with his wife and younger daughter to Bendigo. About six months since his wife died and that coupled with the departure of one of his sons for the war had a depressing effect on the old gentleman who evinced his desire to live after as he expressed it "his better half had gone." The deceased, who was highly respected every where, leaves a grown up family of three daughters and three sons to mourn a very sad loss. The two eldest sons, Messers ? and R. Hampton, are well-known farmers in this district. The youngest, [Rich]ard, is sergeant in the 4th Regiment Light Horse in the First Expeditionary Force. The daughters are Mrs John [Mitc]hell, of Pyramid Creek, Mrs Fred [Jage]r, of Swan Hill, and Miss L J. Hampton, who resided with her father. The funeral took place on Wednesday, the place of interment being the Bendigo cemetery."
