HONEYSTREET.
A LONG LIFE ENDED.
By the death of Mr. George Fruen, which occurred at Savernake Hospital last week, Honeystreet has lost another of its old residents. Mr. Fruen, who was 82 years of age, had been for some 16 years afflicted with total blindness—a terrible handicap for one who had lived an active life. He, however, bore his affliction with considerable fortitude and retained an interest in life. About a fortnight before his death he slipped from his chair, and one of the thighs was broken. He was removed to Savernake Hospital, but a little later pneumonia developed, and this proved fatal. Mr. Fruen was a native of Great Bedwyn, and as a young man he entered the service of the G.W.R. Company on the Kennet and Avon Canal. Thirty-nine years ago, he was appointed to the position of ganger over the length of the canal between Devizes and Wootton Rivers, and came to Honeystreet. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon at Woodborough, Canon Jervis officiating. Mrs. P. D. Radcliffe was at the organ, and the hymns, "Jesu, Lover of my Soul," and "Peace, Perfect Peace," were sung. The mourners include Messrs. C., R., and J. Fruen (sons), Mrs. D. Goddard, Mrs. T. Goddard, and Miss Fruen (daughters), Messrs. D. and T. Goddard (sons-in-law), Mrs. J. Fruen (daughter-in-law), Mr. J. Fruen, jun. (grandson), Willie, Dot, Gwen and Queenie (grand-children) and Mrs. Kettering (sister).
