  Research Notes:

In 1841 James Blight, aged about 35, born in the county, copper miner, and wife Elizabeth Blight, aged about 30, born in the county, were in Illogan Downs, Illogan, Cornwall. With them were children James (10), William (9), Jane (7), Richard (5) and Mary (1).

On 23 Sep 1847, Mr. James Blight, aged 40, wife Elizabeth and six children including James, aged 16, Richard , aged 11, and William, arrived in Port Adelaide, South Australia, aboard the ship Rajah. 5

BLIGHT.—On the 22nd August, at his residence, near Tobas-street, Mount Barker, James Blight, sen., the beloved husband of Maria Blight, in his 93rd year.

An old and highly respected resident of the Mount Barker district, Mr. James Blight, sen., passed away on Thursday morning. The deceased gentleman was a native of Cornwall, and came to South Australia in 1847. Two years later he removed to Mount Barker Springs, and continued to live there until a few months ago, when he went to Mount Barker. Mr. Blight was in the 93rd year of his age at the time of his death, which was hastened by an unfortunate accident not quite a year ago. The deceased gentleman, who had been thrice [sic] married, leaves a widow, a daughter, six sons, and 61 grandchildren.
